Kristoffer Broberg secured his first European Tour victory in style at the BMW Masters in Shanghai, defeating Patrick Reed in a play-off.
The main thing that stood out to me, other than his fine victory, was that he was using a 5yr old Callaway RAZR Hawk Tour Driver.
In the modern day era, with new equipment/innovations being released every 6-12 months, players as a rule step into the newest equipment as soon as it becomes available to them, and they never look back.
Obviously Broberg has found a driver that works for him that ticks all the boxes (looks, feel, distance, consistency etc) and he’s sticking with it. His victory today in Shanghai proves that if its not broke, don’t try and fix it!!!!
As golfers we all get sucked in by the latest equipment (especially with drivers), which is all part of the enjoyment. But Broberg’s victory proves that you can have good results with older equipment too!
