England’s Alfie Plant was joined today in practice by the current World No2, Hideki Matsuyama. It was the perfect opportunity for Alfie to test himself against one of the very best players in the world.
Having watched Alfie & Hideki in close quarters during their practice round today, there wasn’t much between the two players! Alfie performed very well and looked like he belonged on the big stage.
When you play with Hideki Matsuyama (World No2), there’s a huge media presence in attendance (Photographers/TV Crew), because Hideki is such a huge star back home in Japan.
It was a unique experience for Alfie, it was the ideal scenario for getting used to playing in the big arena against one of the worlds best players, under a massive media spotlight.
It’s no surprise that Alfie’s been so successful in his Amateur career, he took the whole occasion in his stride and went about his business as normal, he wasn’t phased one bit about playing along side the World No2.
Alfie looks very comfortable on the big stage at Royal Birkdale, he’s enjoying himself and embracing the challenge. I’m sure he’s looking forward to getting things underway at 9.14am on Thursday morning along side Wesley Bryan & Anirban Lahiri.
I’m sure #TeamAlfie will be out in force on Thursday morning to support Alfie all the way!
