England’s Alfie Plant, the reigning European Amateur Champion makes his Open debut this week at Royal Birkdale.
Alfie won the European Amateur Championship two weeks ago at Walton Heath in a sudden death play-off, Alfie yet again proved he was the man for the big occasion holing a 20ft birdie putt to secure victory and a place at this weeks’ Open Championship at Royal Birkdale.
It’s been a busy period for Alfie, after his European-Am victory he flew straight to Austria to represent England in the Men’s European Amateur Team Championship, helping England to secure the Silver Medal.
Alfie made a formidable partnership with British Amateur Champion Harry Ellis (also making his Open debut this week), a partnership I’m sure we’ll see again at the upcoming 2017 Walker Cup at Riviera CC.
Alfie played his first practice round today and was very impressed with the course, he’s obviously in good form and he’s very much looking forward to the week ahead.
Alfie’s well known for being one of the best supported Amateur golfers in the world, the renowned #TeamAlfie travel the length and breadth of the country to support Alfie at all his events and this week will be no exception, another huge travelling support is expected to arrive at Royal Birkdale to cheer him on in his pursuit for the Silver Medal.
Alfie’s Dad, (Darren Plant) has been an instrumental figure in Alfie’s young career, his guidance has been invaluable to Alfie during his journey to the top of the Amateur game.
One of Alfie’s biggest supporters was his late Nan, i’m sure this poignant message of support on Alfie’s bag will inspire him immensely this week.
Alfie will also have his brother on the bag this week (Bert Plant), Bert was on the bag during Alfie’s recent European-Am victory at Walton Heath, they have a great relationship and work well together.
